Blue Shirt Day: World Bullying Prevention Day

Blue Shirt Day is an annual event that takes place on the first Monday of October to raise awareness about bullying prevention. It is a day for students, schools, and communities to come together and show their support for a bully-free world.

Why is Blue Shirt Day important?

Bullying is a serious problem that can have a devastating impact on children’s lives. It can lead to low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and even suicide. Blue Shirt Day is an important opportunity to stand up against bullying and show support for those who have been affected by it.

Tips for Planning:

  • Talk to students about bullying and how to prevent it (check out my anti-bullying lesson here).
  • Encourage your student organizations to help plan your Blue Shirt Day. The more students who are organizing the event, the more students who will participate.
    • Ask your theatre department to create a fun skit related to bullying prevention.
    • Ask your art department to create posters with anti-bullying messages to post around your school or community.
    • Ask your student council to do a fund raiser and donate to a bullying prevention organization.
    • Ask your yearbook department to take a creative group photo of everyone wearing blue.
  • Create a competition between grade levels for who can wear the most blue.
  • Check out the Stomp Out Bullying Website for more information on this year’s theme/slogan. Be sure to register your school on their website as well.
